Winter 2016/17

Welcome back to the After School Program Blog!  For Winter 2016 we are offering a condensed list of programs. As per parents' requests, we are running programs for 8-10 weeks.

Programs with insufficient enrollment will be cancelled 3-5 days before the first class - so please register early. We have changed the cancellation notice, because of the number of late registrants.

There will be announcements the first week of programs to let students know where each program is located. The kids should go straight there after the bell rings at 3:30 and programs will start at 3:45. Please let your child's teacher know ahead of time if they are attending programs so the teacher knows how to dismiss them safely.

KINDERGARTEN:
Because kindergarten classes are dismissed at 3:15, we offer JK/SK specific programming starting at 3:15.

ABSENCE:
If your child is missing a session, please contact the program providers directly to let them know that your child will be absent, even if you have already notified the school office.

DISMISSAL:
All programs end at 4:30 or 4:45 or 5:00. The students will be escorted to the front doors and the instructors will wait there until all students have been picked up. Please let the program providers know who will be picking up your child.  Each program may have a different end time, so please check carefully.  Providers reserve the right to charge parents who are late for pickup.

REGISTRATION:
As always, you sign up directly with the program providers using the links available through the program calendar. Click on the program name within the calendar for a full description of the program. Then click on the link within the description to access the registration sites or contact the program directly. Once you've registered you'll be communicating directly with the program providers about any schedule changes, etc.

PROGRAM CANCELLATION:
Programs will run if enough students sign up. Sometimes individual programs don't get enough interest and we have to cancel. That's why we're constantly striving to find fun and exciting programs and to cater to a variety of interests.

We are always looking for volunteers to help with after school programming and to help find new and interesting programs.

2016/17 Winter Lunch Time Program Calendar
Lunchtime programs are open for registration starting on the morning of Thursday December 15th.  Registration is on a first-come basis (with some priority given for students who have not attended a session this school year) and will close when programs are full. Programs are capped at 15 students for Chess and Drawing Club, and 20 students for Raising Readers.  Programs available for registration are: Chess for primary students for the winter and spring terms, Chess for junior students for the winter term, Drawing club for the winter term and Raising Readers for the winter term.  Registration will be confirmed by the end of the first week of school in January.

DevTeam, for youth 9+ is part of our athletic development stream. It is for youth that want to be better climbers, learn climbing techniques and skills and develop strength and endurance. Our youth programs include the use of harnesses and shoes, gym membership for the duration of the program and a t-shirt.

Semester 1 starts the first week of school and ends the last week of January 2017.

Check our flyer for more info and prices. For registration call 416-703-3434.

Double ‘OO’
International Super Spy School for kids (http://double00.ca) .  Kids love the idea of being a spy. Our 'training facility' is located at 245 Carlaw Ave., Unit 004 and is suited to 5-12 year olds.    We take the kids through basic skills training that "spies" need to know.  They are briefed on the mission and what skills they must learn that day.  The 3 components each day are:
1) Drama / disguise - they learn to get into character and act.  This is to help them gain confidence.
2) Gadgetry - they learn safety and ways to make cool things, plus how to use real gadgets.  This is to help them think outside the box and be creative.
3) Ninja Training - they learn to be active and stealthy.  There are laser obstacle courses and smoke effects used.  A lot of tumbling and some self defense in the dojo.  This also helps them with their self confidence.

There are healthy snacks and drinks given.  There is a class everyday for 5-12 year olds. We provide a daily walk over program.  Please contact provider directly for more details at 64SPYING01 (telephone 647-794-6401).

Premier Gymnastics
The kids would have to be brought to and from the gym by their parents or care givers.

Our gymnastics program offers a variety of classes suited for children ages from 3 to 12. Younger kids are introduced to basic gymnastics skills and older children are able to learn more advanced skills, improve their strength and flexibility while having fun.
Classes run from 4 to 8 p.m. and are 1 hour and 1 1/2 hours long.

Jumping Clay
Jumping Clay is a safe and non-toxic air-drying clay.  It is water soluble and mess-free.  We use the clay as an educational tool to promote culture and learning with programs that facilitate a "Learn Through Play" mindset which appeals to children of all ages.  By making simple geometry shapes and putting them together, you can create beautiful 2-D and 3-D artworks.
Every week, the children will be guided and taught step by step lessons on making different projects which they will take home at the end of every class.  The children will also learn team building and at some point make a big diorama.

There will be one class on Tuesday for 4-8 year olds and Wednesday for 9 and up, we provide a walk over program.
